Star Wars

As I feel that Terminator 2: Judgement Day isn’t really relevant to the type of opening sequence I want to make, I have chosen to analyse a section of the opening scene from Star Wars (2:35-5:00 minutes). I have chosen this section as I think it will help me best in making my own scene. My genre is action/thriller, and although Star Wars is a Science-Fiction movie, it is also an action film. What I will be focusing on is the different ways the camera is used to show action. This is the very first scene of the Star Wars saga, written and directed by George Lucas. It is one of the most famous movies in the world, so it it must have had a good opening sequence for people to carry on watching.

Some of the techniques used, such as close-ups of characters and characters running past the frame while the camera pans, give a great effect of fast-paced action. The frequent cuts between shots, and both digetic and non-digetic sounds, add to the overall energetic and frantic atmosphere of the scene.
